If you’ve visited the district office of the Duarte Unified School District lately, you have seen for yourself that the promise of the future has already arrived. The modern design of the remodeled lobby matches the bold academic renaissance taking place throughout the district.
The updates to the district office, started in December 2016, are funded by Developer Fees, not Measure E Bond dollars or General Fund sources. Developer Fees can only be allocated to pay for facility improvement projects. They cannot be spent on other items like supplies, salaries or programs.
The Board of Education did approve the expenditure of Measure E funds to begin modernization projects to accommodate the transition to K-8 models in accordance with the district's Facilities Master Plan and Competitive Advantage Plan.
Andres Duarte, Beardslee, Maxwell and Royal Oaks will be remodeled to become K-8 campuses. Interim classrooms will be installed adjacent to Duarte High School to house 8th grade students for the 2017-18 school year that will be called the 8th Grade Village.
Duarte USD has contracted architect Jay Tittle of the Little Diversified Architectural Consulting firm for these projects and the district’s Facilities Master Plan.
Future projects include a culinary arts classroom expansion and a sports complex at the campus of Duarte High School to be funded through the state school improvement bond which was approved by the California voters in November 2016.
