1st Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Basketball Game Fundraiser
On Friday, January 16, 2015, The Duarte Lady Falcons basketball team scored 66 points and held the visiting Gladstone Gladiators to 23 in the Falcons' league triumph. But, both teams were also engaged in a fight to eradicate breast cancer. That evening the Lady Falcons basketball team dawned pink and white uniforms donated by the City of Hope thanks to COH External Relations Associate, Victor Benavides. The Gladstone teams and coaches wore pink ribbons in support of the event. The City of Hope also, donated the pink t-shirts worn by players on the freshman and junior varsity teams. Fans were also given pink ribbons to wear during the game. In attendance, representing the Duarte Board of Education, was Ken Bell who is also in a team photo with COH, Victor Benavides. Game proceeds from the snack bar and gift card raffle (donated by Target) will be donated back to the City of Hope for cancer research. In addition, Ranchero’s Restaurant, thanks to Sandi Mejia, hosted the Breast Cancer Awareness after game meal for the players, coaches, family and friends. A percentage of the meals purchased that evening will also be donated to the City of Hope in their name. The event was a huge success and will be even greater next year.
