Positive Prevention Curriculum
Duarte Unified School District will be providing instruction in comprehensive sexual health education and HIV/AIDS prevention for all 7th and 9th grade students in accordance with state law.
The purpose of the California Healthy Youth Act (Education Codes 51930 - 51939) is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect their sexual and reproductive health from unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Instruction will begin April 16, 2018.
Positive Prevention Plus curriculum is used by the 7th grade science teachers to educate students about making informed decisions for a healthy lifestyle. This curriculum encourages students to communicate with parents, guardians or other trusted adults about human sexuality. Instruction must be medically accurate, age‐appropriate and inclusive of all students.
The curriculum is available for parents to review in the school office at your child’s school.
If you have questions, please see the teacher or principal. State law allows you to remove your student from this instruction. If you DO NOT want your student to participate in comprehensive sexual health or HIV prevention education, please return the letter mailed to you indicating this to your child’s Science or Health teacher by April 13, 2018.
