Mrs. Janice Kolodinski

Janice Kolodinski joined the Duarte leadership team in 2008 and presently brings twenty years of experience to her position as principal of Royal Oaks Elementary.  She graduated from Occidental College with a major in Economics and minor studies in sociology and physical education.  While at Occidental she was an AIAW all-American athlete in Volleyball.  Mrs. Kolodinski worked in family businesses for several years before pursuing a career in education.  She holds a masters degree and credential in education leadership from National University.

Mrs. Kolodinski began her career in education in Los Angeles Unified School District.  While a classroom teacher, she also taught classes for the district’s teacher intern program and became a leader at her campus in science and mathematics.  In the interest of rounding out her expertise, she became a literacy coach and received over 100 hours of training to support instruction and professional development.  Her next position was a program coordinator at two magnet schools, one for environmental studies and the other for highly gifted students.

At Royal Oaks, Mrs. Kolodinski has fostered a culture of professional learning and collaboration among staff, providing academic rigor and excellence.  Under her leadership the school has received three Title I Academic Achievement awards, nomination for National Blue Ribbon, and two years of the California Businesses for Education Excellence Honor Roll.  She was on the district’s leadership team for California Math and Science Partnership, a three year study and collaboration of math professional development with Duarte and Glendora Unified School Districts. Passionate about the arts, Mrs. Kolodinski led the district’s participation in Los Angeles County Arts Commission’s “Arts for All” grant and program which led to many other funding opportunities to support music in Duarte Schools.

Mrs. Kolodinski believes that parents play an important role in their children’s success.  Several family events are scheduled each year which provide opportunities for parents to engage with their children through activities in literacy as well science, technology, engineering and math. She encourages parent volunteers at Royal Oaks where a thriving PTA ensures that every student benefits from standards-based assembly programs, field trips, and adds a special touch to school activities and events.
