Mrs. Tanja Bughman
Welcome to Room 17. I am thrilled to be your child's teacher!
I grew up in Pasadena, California. UC Santa Barbara is my alma mater and I graduated with a degree in Political Science with an emphasis in International Relations. I also earned my teaching credential there. Several years later I attended Cal State LA where I earned my Master's Degree in Education with an emphasis in math. I began teaching at Maxwell Academy in 2006. I have taught grades 3-6 in Glendale USD and Duarte USD. I love the fourth grade!!
This year we will learn about adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, as well as working with fractions and decimals. In science we will learn about renewable and nonrenewable energy, how to design, build, and test scientific devices, as well as the structures of plants and animals. We will make inquiries into California's history to find out why people migrated here, how the Gold Rush influenced our state, and why missions were built near rivers and streams. In each of these IB units of inquiry we will be developing into IB Learners and asking key concept questions.
You can help your child be successful this year. Please have him or her come to school on time each day. Having his or her materials and completed homework is a must. Your child should read for 30 minutes each night, as well as practice memorizing the multiplication and division facts. These are some helpful tips to ensure your child's academic success.
I look forward to the year ahead!
