Dr. Lawson

Dr. Kelly Lawson is the proud principal of Maxwell Academy. She has taught various grade levels from 1st to 4th grade as well as at the college level. She has experienced the most joy serving as an elementary school principal. She is a visionary leader that strives to make a difference in the lives of the children she serves. Being able to instill hope in children and creating structures and systems that allow them to flourish is her greatest reward.

Dr. Lawson is a shoulder-tapped graduate of the Duarte Unified School District. She attended Beardslee Elementary School, Northveiw Intermediate School and is a proud member of the Duarte High School Class of “86.” She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from University of California Los Angeles, Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, Administrative Credential and Masters of Art in School Administration from California State University Los Angeles, and her Doctorate of Education in K-12 Urban School Leadership from the University of Southern California.

She enjoys life and brings joy and inspiration to those around her daily. Her excitement is contagious and this is evident at her morning “Jump Start Assemblies” where she enthusiastically opens the day singing, dancing, and motivating the student body. There are no limits to what she will do to ensure that students are the priority and that they have the materials, resources, and tools needed for success! She is the biggest cheerleader for Team Maxwell and the families they serve!
