DUSD Students Go Inside The Actors Studio

Theatre and film students from Duarte and M.I.T. High Schools had the honor of spending the day with professionals from the entertainment industry inside the famed Actors Studio located in West Hollywood.

The Actors Studio helps professional actors, directors, and playwrights hone their craft and explore the depth and breadth of their talent. Based on exercises and techniques developed here by Lee Strasberg and others, the Actors Studio is "the home of method acting."

Our students had the chance to explore this special place and participated in workshops about Acting, Improv, Poetry, Creative Writing, Photography, and Filmmaking with Hollywood A-List talent.

Through the generosity of the Creating Creators program, students were able to make connections with industry professionals such as Steven Weber, best known for his role as Brian Hackett on the television show Wings. They also worked with actors Michaela Watkins, Goya Robles, Javier Molina, Carida de la Luz, Adrian Gutierrez, Steven Fadellin, Mayda del Valle, Marshall Davis Jones, and Dennis Febo.

Our students were inspired to embrace their creativity and use their voices to create meaningful visual and performing art. They were accompanied on this field trip by DHS Drama Director & VAPA Department Chair, Leslie Bartlett, and M.I.T. Principal, Kevin Morris.

Stay tuned for upcoming performances and viewings of films produced by our own students throughout the school year. Learn more about the Creating Creators program that also serves students at Beardslee Academy here.
