Duarte High Offers the Only 4 Year Early College Degree-Bearing Program in the Region
Duarte High School in partnership with Citrus College offers the only Four-Year Early College Dual Enrollment Degree-Bearing Program in the San Gabriel Valley. This unprecedented opportunity is available to students in grades 9-12. The Early College Program blends high school and college in a rigorous and supportive cohort program. Students simultaneously earn a high school diploma and complete between 30-60 college units depending on the pathway they choose, including earning an Associate of Science Degree.
This program affords families a cost savings of thousands of dollars compared to the price of entering college after high school graduation, and provides an accelerated pathway for students wanting to get a head start on graduate work or entry into their career of choice.
EARLY COLLEGE 4-YEAR DEGREE-BEARING PATHWAYS:
Participating students attend classes on the Duarte High campus taught by Citrus College professors. This program offers students 60 transferable college units and an Associate of Science Degree.
Degree Options: Administration of Justice (Criminal Justice or Correctional Science) Computer Science
Courses: Vary depending on pathway, but each involves completion of IGETC.
THE TRADITIONAL EARLY COLLEGE PROGRAM:
Duration: 2 years • Grades: 11-12
Degrees/Certificates Earned: High School Diploma & Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) Certificate (30 transferable college units).
Participating students enroll in their Junior year and attend classes on the Duarte High campus taught by Citrus College professors. Students in this program graduate with a high school diploma and a minimum of 30 college units.
Courses: Students take all courses in the IGETC that are transferable to both CSU and UC systems without the need to take additional lower division general education courses. These include Ethnic Studies, Political Science, Reading and Composition, Introduction, Reading and Composition, Human Genetics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Philosophy, Sociology, Speech, Motion Picture Appreciation.
