Creating Creators at M.I.T. High School
M.I.T. High School provides an alternative setting for students whose needs are better met in a more flexible, personalized, and self-paced program. Our students benefit from smaller class sizes, flexible scheduling, and a caring atmosphere that ensures students get individualized attention
We offer opportunities designed to open pathways to college and career. Our 180 Accelerated Degree program affords students a diploma and industry certifications upon graduation in several emerging Career Technical Education (CTE) Pathways that include Patient Care (CNA), Forestry and Natural Resources, Information Support and Services, and Production and Managerial Arts.
A fifth-year senior graduation program is also available as part of our drop-out prevention approach and is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) with a Six Year Accreditation through the state of California.
Our partnership with Creating Creators has gained our school notoriety within the entertainment industry and brought The Cinema Project to our campus. Our students learn the craft of film production directly from industry professionals who guide them through every step of the film creation process. Workshops are provided with actors such as Goya Robles from Get Shorty and cinematographer, Lawrence Le. Our students were even invited into “The Actors Studio” to get tips from A-list talent.
You will also see our students working red carpet events like the South East European Film Festival (SEEFest). They conducted press interviews with the filmmakers, actors, and dignitaries present at the Gala event. Among the celebrities they interviewed was Greg Laemmle, owner of the Laemmle Movie Theaters. These opportunities are leading to jobs and internships with prominent Hollywood studios including HBO and 20th Century Fox.
“Innovation is the name of the game here, and having the support of partners offering real industry experience is a real game-changer for our students’ futures,” shared Principal Morris.
