Duarte Unified School District Welcomes New Superintendent

he Duarte Unified School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jessica Medrano as the district’s next Superintendent. The Board approved her appointment at its regular meeting on October 16, 2025, following a comprehensive search process led by McPherson & Jacobson, LLC.

As part of the search, the firm hosted community meetings and conducted an online survey to gather input from parents, staff, students, community members, and local businesses. This feedback played a key role in helping the Board select the district’s next leader.

“After a thorough and inclusive search, the Board is excited to welcome Dr. Medrano to Duarte Unified,” said Dr. James Finlay, President of the Board of Education. “Her dedication to student success reflects our community values, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who provided feedback and engaged with us during this period of leadership transition in our district.”

She earned her B.A. in Spanish and Linguistics from UCLA, an M.Ed. and teaching credential from the University of La Verne, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from UCLA. Throughout her career, she has served as a Spanish teacher, Director of Student Activities, Assistant Principal, High School Principal, Director, and most recently as Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services in the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District.

“Duarte Unified School District’s success is rooted in the heart of its community—its students, families, and educators,” said Dr. Medrano. “I look forward to partnering with the Board of Education, staff, families, and community to build on that shared pride and progress, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation that keeps students at the center of every decision.”
