Comprehensive Sexual Health Education Curriculum
Positive Prevention Curriculum
Duarte Unified School District will be providing instruction in comprehensive sexual health education and HIV/AIDS prevention for all 7th and 9th grade students in accordance with state law.
The purpose of the California Healthy Youth Act (Education Codes 51930 - 51939) is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect their sexual and reproductive health from unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Positive Prevention Plus curriculum is used by the 7th grade science teachers and 9th grade health teachers to educate students about making informed decisions for a healthy lifestyle. This curriculum encourages students to communicate with parents, guardians or other trusted adults about human sexuality. Instruction must be medically accurate, age‐appropriate and inclusive of all students.
A full explanation of the curriculum that will be used will be provided during a virtual parent meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 16, 2021 at 6:00 pm
